It is fair to say that Flyboarding is one of the funnest activities you can do on the water. By harnessing the outflow of water from a jet ski and redirecting it to 2 nozzles below the riders feet, the Flyboard is able to provide the gift of water-propelled flight. After 5-10 minutes of practice, a first time user will be soaring over the water with all the confidence and style of Tony Stark.
From the back of the jet ski, an 80 foot fire hose extends out and connects to the actual Flyboard. The hose travels underneath the hull and clips the bow cleat of the jet ski allowing the vessel to follow the Flyboard rider in a forward facing direction. Sitting atop of the jet ski, is a fully alert and experienced rider/instructor who has the very important task of providing power to the rider. The more throttle given, the higher the rider goes. If the person on the Flyboard is about to fall, then the instructor can simply ease off the throttle and safely lower the rider into the water. Achievable heights depend upon the horsepower of the jet ski and weight of the rider and range anywhere from 15-50 feet. First time riders generally do not exceed 10-15 feet.
Basic Flyboarding Equipment. Throw in some lifejackets and a helmet, and you're ready to go.
Even if a steady stream of water is provided, the person on the Flyboard still has the capability of altering his/her height off the water. This is done by simply adjusting where the user's weight is being placed. If the Flyboarder points his toes down, he will move forward while losing altitude simultaneously. This action causes the direction of the jets to change from straight down to a slight angle behind the rider, consequently, removing that direct opposing force keeping him suspended. The same principle of shifting one's weight and foot position applies to turning, carving, and other maneuvers such as 360s and dolphin dives.
