Laying out by the pool or at the beach is, of course, always a winner, but as far as REALLY having fun on the water, you've gotta throw in a little action. These are our top picks, in no particular order, of things that are awesome and will give you a whole 'nother kind of on the water experience:
- Paddleboard - Relaxing, adventurous, a great workout... Paddleboarding has it all. There's no limit to what you can explore on one of these. Wanna get up close and personal with a dolphin? This is your ticket.
- Flyboard - Aerial acrobatics meets water skiing. This will give you the biggest rush of all, and you will feel like Tony Stark himself as you get the hang of balancing and flying around over the water under jet power.
- Jet Ski - Daniel Tosh said it best. Money can't buy you happiness, but it CAN buy a Jet Ski. Have you ever seen anyone sad on a Jet Ski?? Exactly. Rent one of these aquatic motorcycles and let your throttle hand take care of the rest.
- Kiteboard - This one takes a little more practice, but the payoff is well worth it. Surf with no limits. Let the wind take you wherever you want to do and stop worrying if the waves are good today or not.
- Fishing - If we have to explain the joys of fishing, you have already lost. There is a reason why there are thousands of fishing magazines and shows out there. Whether you want to catch and filet them yourself, have a pro take care of it, or simply catch and release, the excitement is the same.
- Rent a Boat - There is a saying... The two best days in a boat owner's life are the day they buy a boat and the day they sell it. Going boating is hands down one of the best ways to enjoy the beautiful water, but owning a boat comes with more headaches than most people care to deal with. Simple solution: rent one!
- A Harbor Trip - The Charleston Harbor is a magical place. You are surrounded on all sides by beauty. There is so much to see that can only be seen this way. The rainbow houses of the Battery, a head on view of the Ravenell, dolphin's coming to eat dinner at Morris Island, Fort Sumter... the list goes on. If you only get to be on the water one time this summer, this is the way to do it.
- Cable Park - Skiing, wakeboarding, and kneeboarding are all tons of fun, but you need some calm water and you might need a little help if you haven't done it before. Trophy Lakes is your ticket. The water is ideal, and their unique overhead cable system will get you up and skiing in no time. It won't be log at all before you step up to doing it behind the boat!
- Surf - This is another one that's going to take some practice, but once you get the hang of it, you'll quickly see why it surfing has spawned an entire subculture around it. Surfing connects you to the power of the ocean like nothing else. It should probably be regulated by the government due to its serious addiction potential.
- Hang Out at the Tiki Hut - Floating Tiki Hut, paddleboards, flyboards, and the Charleston Harbor. This requires no further explanation.
